Couples, friends and even dogs joined in to celebrate not getting married in Paris' historic Montmartre district on Sunday.
Dozens of participants dressed up and adorned their hair with flowers for the Ceremony of Non-Marriage Proposals, hosted by the mayor of the French capital's 18th district as part of the annual Montmartre grape harvest festival.
In the event near the Sacre-Coeur Basilica, some participants exchanged non-marriage vows with friends, others with romantic partners, while one woman even ‘non-married’ her dog, Poppy.
"It’s really about hoping for eternal love, rather than making a promise that might not last the test of time in a marriage,” said participant Sophie.
Dominique, 76, attended with her partner, Michel, 80. The couple have been together for six years, but she insisted marriage was not on the cards, at least for now.
"He's already been divorced twice, so I wouldn't want to be the third," she said. "As for me, I've buried two, so I'm not going to bury him either."
